T-shirts and sweatshirts from the 1960s and earlier are now called "vintage" and used as design sources by various brands. These were manufactured using fabric woven on an old-style knitting machine called a "Tsuri-Ami machine," which knits the fabric into a tubular shape. These machines are currently in operation only in Wakayama Prefecture in Japan.
Studio D'Artisan has a long-standing relationship with a factory in Wakayama, and they have been producing items made of hang-woven fabrics every season, which have been well-received by their customers.
The unique texture is created by using "Tsuri-Ami machines" that were commonly used until the 1960s. This T-shirt has a thickness as if it were knitted with air, which is created by knitting at a very slow speed, barely weaving one meter of fabric in about one hour of operation, and the fabric has a nice unevenness that reminds us of the texture of those days.
The famous Union Special sewing machine is used for sewing. This is a piece that allows you to experience Studio D'Artisan's attention to detail, such as the print by discharge print.
