Inspired by workwear from the late 1800s, the M101S Waist Overall recreates one of the earliest forms of denim trousers. Made from rare American Sea Island Cotton and woven into 14oz selvedge denim, it combines vintage character with exceptional softness and comfort.
What is a Waist Overall?
A waist overall is an early style of workwear worn with suspenders, before the word “jeans” became common. BIG JOHN reinterprets this historic design with a classic look and a silhouette that fits naturally into modern styling.
Fabric
This 14oz selvedge denim uses American Sea Island Cotton, a rare extra-long staple cotton known for its smooth touch, softness, and refined texture. Sea Island Cotton waste fibers are also blended into the yarn to recreate the nep texture and raw character found in vintage denim.
The fabric is slowly woven on vintage power looms, giving it an uneven surface, natural texture, and the supple feel unique to premium cotton. The deep indigo color will develop rich fades and honeycombs with wear.
Design
This model has a classic workwear look with a relaxed, easy-to-wear silhouette. Suspender buttons at the waist allow traditional styling, while the clean shape also pairs well with a simple T-shirt, chambray shirt, or work jacket. Rolling up the hem to show the selvedge is also recommended.
