COZUN refers to a fabric knitted on a “Ko-sun” knitting machine, a modified version of the traditional loopwheel machines that have existed in Wakayama, Japan since the Taisho era. Unlike standard loopwheel knitting, the Ko-sun machine operates at a slightly faster speed, producing a fabric with a unique balance of qualities.
The material retains the soft, fluffy texture characteristic of loopwheel knitting, while also offering the firmness and structure found in modern sinker knitting. The result is a special fabric that blends the rugged, dry hand often associated with American sportswear with the gentle, comfortable feel of Japanese loopwheel knits.
However, these machines are extremely rare in Japan today.
