What’s COZUN?
COZUN is a proprietary knitting method developed by BARNS OUTFITTERS, created using a rare small-diameter knitting machine modified from traditional loopwheel machines that were in use during Japan’s Taisho era (1912–1926).
By knitting slowly with minimal tension and allowing air to remain within the yarn, COZUN fabric achieves a unique balance of softness and resilience. It combines the gentle, broken-in feel associated with vintage loopwheel garments with the structure and durability required for everyday wear.
Most COZUN fabrics are knitted in a seamless tubular construction, reducing stress points and providing a smooth, comfortable fit against the skin. The garments are sewn using flatseamer machines, which join the fabric without overlapping seams, resulting in a clean finish that feels natural and irritation-free.
This careful production process gives COZUN garments their distinctive texture and comfort—designed to age gracefully over time and become a long-lasting part of the wearer’s daily wardrobe.
