The Blue Monster – Denimio × Studio D’Artisan

When we sat down with Studio D’Artisan to discuss a new collaboration, we knew we wanted to create a monster, something that would take one of their most beloved fabrics and transform it into something entirely new. From our past Denimio collabs, we also knew there was one particular weft color people kept asking for. We get messages about it all the time. So we sat down with SDA to see how far we could push it. We knew exactly which shade we wanted, but we also wanted to make it a completely new fabric, not just a recolour. Even though that meant a longer production schedule, SDA agreed to weave the fabric from scratch, and it was absolutely worth the wait.
Built on the legendary 18oz base used for the GZ-009, this special edition introduces a unique cyan-blue weft, inspired by the moody tones of classic kaiju cinema. The result is a deep indigo denim with a subtle greenish-blue cast that reveals itself gradually with wear, offering a fresh twist on a fan-favourite fabric.
Available in two signature SDA silhouettes, the 101 Regular Straight and the 108 Relax Tapered, The Blue Monster blends vintage character with modern comfort. Each pair is woven in Japan with meticulous attention to detail, maintaining the distinctive slubby texture and dense hand that SDA is famous for.
Every pair comes with the denimio collab tab, custom leather patch, printed pocket bags, and a paper flasher that encapsulates the unique quirkiness of SDA. Each pair comes with a custom cotton bag featuring the Blue Monster artwork, echoing the playful flasher design. It’s a nod to Studio D’Artisan’s tradition of mixing serious craftsmanship with a sense of humour.
Quantities are strictly limited to 160 pairs worldwide. Once they’re gone, the monster goes back into hiding.
