The Waist Overall traces its roots back to the late 19th century, before the terms "jeans" and "denim" became widely used. Evolving from traditional work overalls, this historic style has been reinterpreted by BIG JOHN for modern wear.
Fabric
Made from 100% organic cotton that meets strict international organic certification standards. The fabric uses naturally brown cotton, an old variety that retains its original color without artificial whitening. This natural tone gives the yarn a rich, distinctive appearance.
A plant-derived starch sizing is used during weaving to reduce environmental impact. The fabric is woven on vintage shuttle looms, creating an uneven, textured surface that cannot be easily reproduced by modern high-speed looms. Small cotton specks and fragments of plant material may remain visible in the fabric and are a natural characteristic of the cotton.
From raw cotton to yarn, fabric, and finished garment, each stage requires considerable time and craftsmanship, reflecting BIG JOHN's long-standing approach to manufacturing.
